*Stag Creek Mikade
ABC 3857 f. 4-13-2009.
Sire: *Tall Trees Misdemeanor ABC 3540 Dam: *Stag Creek Magpie Warrior ABC 2747
Perhaps you remember him..... he is one I could not forget - *Mikade! We sold him as a weanling, and from the moment he left in the trailer, I knew I had made a mistake - this was one of the ones that was not supposed to get away. For the next three years, I tried contacting his new owners, in hopes they would be willing to sell him back, or even allow me a few breedings to some mares - but my efforts were met with silence. A very private individual as a new owner, I felt I would never hear from him again. And then that day - the day my phone rang, and the drought had claimed their pastures, and Mikade would be offered for sale, and thrill ran through me as I put steps into motion to bring him home - I am so glad I did! And what a handsome boy he has grown into, and I am not surprised! A grandson to *Tall Trees Beau-Nanza and from one of our favorite mares - *Magpie - this ABC stallion is a real beauty! His sooty buckskin coloration combined with tobiano really set him apart, and make him a perfect candidate for adding color to a herd. His purebred pedigree is amazing, combining some of the best genetics and plenty of diversity. And, this gentleman is most likely homozygous for curl, and is a perfect match for Straight purebred Curly mares or for adding curl to other breeds for outcrossed foals!!! I can picture so many possibilities for *Mikade in the breeding barn, and his kind-hearted personality make him an outstanding candidate for both showing and the family farm. And while I was planning the return of this stallion to our farm, I was also aware of the changes that have come about since he first left. Many of the mares that we would have liked to cross with *Mikade - have been sold in the years since he has been gone. Being an excellent cross with Straight or heterozygous mares, I would have reconsidered some of these girls' sales if I had known he would return. And we also bred for and received two colts last year that we were dearly hoping to put to work in our breeding program, and they too are closely related to *Mikade. So, while thrilled to find this boy-once-lost, I knew that to keep him here as a stallion would probably not be fair to his genetics. He has so much to offer, and our stallion row has grown, so we will regrettably offer *Mikade for sale once again. He will be bred to a handful of our mares here on our farm if possible before he leaves, but mostly, I hope he gets his chance with a wonderful breeding program seeking to add excellent disposition, conformation, color and curl to their herd.
Below, and on his second page you will find photos of *Mikade as a foal and weanling.
We could not be more excited about this little man! *Magpie and *Mister foaled their hearts out, and gave us our handsome *Mikade! A lovely sooty buckskin tobiano curly coated colt, beautiful head, so nicely built, and a laid-back, sweetheart disposition! And, I have not seen such a color on a Curly foal as yet - he has the most dramatically changing coat! Born a light buckskin, you could see he carried the sooty gene from his grandsire *Mead's Northern Express (man I loved that horse!). And once *Mikade started shedding his foal coat, he looked like a totally different boy - such a dark sooty buckskin coloring! Almost black! In his older photos, you can still see remnants of his foal coloring. *Mikade is definately stallion quality - and may be homozygous for curl, so he should produce a curly coat from any mare. Add that to the outstanding qualities, stellar pedigree, and unique color possibilities that this colt promises, and you have a star!
